Introduces alternative and sustainable energy sources and systems, including renewable approaches such as solar and wind.

This introductory course prepares students to develop a comprehensive view of the importance of energy auditing and retrofit work in improving home energy efficiency as well as understanding how all of the systems (e.g. HVAC, insulation, appliances) affect the comfort, health, and safety of occupants and durability of the home. This course prepares students for success on the BPI Building Science Principles Certificate of Knowledge examination.

Prerequisites: ENRG 160 or BPI Building Science Principles certification (or other national equivalent). Students can take this course concurrently with the prerequisite with instructor approval. This course prepares students to conduct residential building science-based diagnostic tests and home performance data collection and for success on the nationally recognized BPI BA-T Certification examination.

Prerequisites: ENRG 160 or BPI Building Science Principles certification (or other national equivalent) and ENRG 161 or BPI BA-T certification (or other national equivalent). Students can take this course concurrently with the prerequisites with instructor approval. This course prepares students to use energy modeling software to model the energy upgrade potential of a home, develop a scope of work and for success on the nationally recognized BPI BA-P Certification examination.

Prerequisites: ENRG 160 or BPI Building Science Principles certification (or other national equivalent), ENRG 161 or BPI BA-T certification (or other national equivalent) and ENRG 162 or BPI BA-P certification (or other national equivalent). Students can take this course concurrently with the prerequisites with instructor approval. This course prepares students to test building airflow using blower door and pressure diagnostics, duct testing, and tightness verification, and for success on the BPI Infiltration and Duct Leakage (BPI IDL) Certification examination.

Prerequisites: ENRG 160 or BPI Building Science Principles certification (or other national equivalent), ENRG 161 or BPI BA-T certification (or other national equivalent) and ENRG 162 or BPI BA-P certification (or other national equivalent). Students can take this course concurrently with the prerequisites with instructor approval. This course prepares students to learn the most advanced methods for testing buildings and be prepared for success on the HEP Energy Auditor certification.

Prerequisites: ENRG 160 or BPI Building Science Principles certification (or other national equivalent), ENRG 161 or BPI BA-T certification (or other national equivalent) and ENRG 162 or BPI BA-P certification (or other national equivalent). Students can take this course concurrently with the prerequisites with instructor approval. This course prepares students to integrate all elements of the Energy Audit Process, data collection and recommendations for improvements to develop a scope of work, understand how to execute the project, and verify that all work has been completed with an emphasis on ensuring quality in completed work. Students will also be prepared for success on the BPI Crew Leader certification examination which is supported by the US Department of Energy and its National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

Prerequisites: ENRG 160 or BPI Building Science Principles certification (or other national equivalent), ENRG 161 or BPI BA-T certification (or other national equivalent) and ENRG 162 or BPI BA-P certification (or other national equivalent). Students can take this concurrently with the prerequisites with instructor approval. This course prepares students to become a quality control inspector with the skills to ensure the completion, appropriateness and quality of residential home energy upgrade work through use of methodological inspection of the building including performing safety and diagnostic tests and observing work performed. The course also prepares students for success on the BPI Home Energy Auditor Quality Control Inspection Certification examination.
