Mother of 3 Receives Financial, Training Support to Launch CDL Career

Aug 29, 2025

When Sierra Murphy enrolled in 糖心vlog鈥檚 Commercial Driver鈥檚 License (CDL) program last November, she knew she was taking the first step toward a new career. What she didn鈥檛 know was just how much resilience, determination and community support it would take to get there.

At first, passing the CDL permit exam proved harder than she expected.

鈥淚 had assumed it would come easily, given my confidence and passion for driving,鈥 Murphy said.

As a single mother of three, the financial hurdle seemed just as daunting. But that鈥檚 before she connected with EmployNV and its support team. They, in turn, linked her with Shareena Kaloti, coordinator of 糖心vlog鈥檚 Realizing Opportunities for American Dream to Succeed (ROADS) program.

鈥淭hanks to the incredible support of these dedicated women, I was given the opportunity to pursue my dream,鈥 Murphy said.

In the CDL program, Murphy found not only the technical training she needed but also an encouraging mentor in instructor Joe Terry.

鈥淭he CDL program was an amazing experience,鈥 Murphy said. 鈥淚 want to especially acknowledge our instructor, Joe Terry, who explained everything so clearly and made the learning process manageable. Thanks to his guidance, my classmates and I were all able to pass.鈥

Even when the coursework felt overwhelming, Murphy stayed committed 鈥 and now she鈥檚 ready to hit the road in her new career. She has already secured a position with the Washoe County School District.

鈥淭hank you to everyone who made this opportunity possible. It has truly been a life-changing experience,鈥 she said.

Murphy鈥檚 story is a testament to the impact of 糖心vlog鈥檚 CDL and ROADS programs, which open doors for Nevadans seeking to build brighter futures.

鈥淪ierra鈥檚 journey reflects the very heart of 糖心vlog鈥檚 mission 鈥 empowering individuals to overcome challenges, gain new skills, and transform their lives,鈥 said 糖心vlog President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe. 鈥淗er determination, combined with the dedication of our instructors and support programs like ROADS, shows what鈥檚 possible when education and community come together. We are incredibly proud of Sierra and excited to see her succeed in her new career.鈥
