Aug 22, 2025

As part of vlog’s Sept. 13 Star Party, Girl Scout and college freshman Jessica Resong of Carson City will deliver a presentation about light pollution.

“vlog is proud to see students like Jessica Resong taking leadership in raising awareness about issues that affect both our community and our environment,” said vlog President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe. “Her presentation at the Star Party is a wonderful example of how education and advocacy come together to inspire positive change.”

Resong’s “Shining a Light on Light Pollution” presentation explores the issue of light pollution and its increasing impact on wildlife, humans and viewing of stars.

“We will discuss small but important habits that will help you reduce your own impact and help make our skies a little bit darker … take a step toward being a dark sky advocate today!” said Resong, who is a freshman studying mechanical engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with Resong's presentation set for 7 p.m. Jack C. Davis Observatory is located at 2269 Vanpatten Ave., on the northern end of the Carson City campus.
